PRESS RELEASE#
The Orlu Political Action Committee (OPOCA), will from Monday next week, begin extensive consultation with the politicians, leaders, stakeholders and the various interest groups in Orlu zone, to produce a road map and a concrete pronouncement on the stand and future of Orlu zone, as regards zoning of the Imo state governorship position, come 2019.
This was contained in a release signed by Rt. Hon. Chigozie Nwagba and Comr. Uchenna Nwokeji, Chairman and Secretary of the group, respectively, after their meeting in Orlu, last Wednesday, a copy of which was made available to our reporter.
They said, “sequel to the advise we gave our brothers from Owerri and Okigwe zones earlier, to allow us time to deliberate and properly articulate our thoughts, plans and strategies before formally unveiling the stand of Orlu zone on the issue of zoning, come, 2019, we have today, Wednesday 10th May 2017, resolved to commence consultation with the institutions in Orlu zone on Monday next week. The institutions include, the traditional rulers, elders, town unions, Orluzurumee and the various youth leaders. After collating inputs from these groups, we will then commence consultation across the four federal constituencies in Orlu zone”.
They said, there is need for extensive and comprehensive consultation before making an official pronouncement on the issue of zoning and the political future of the people of Orlu zone. “It will no longer be business as usual. Everybody must be carried along and all shades of opinion will be accommodated and screened. A situation where few selfish, greedy and opinionated politicians meet in a hotel room and arbitrarily decide the future of Orlu zone will no longer be tolerated. The Orlu project belongs to all Orlu people and will no longer be hijacked by few people for selfish and personal interests”.
They recalled that the Orlu Political Action Committee had in a press release after their meeting in Orlu, called on Owerri and Okigwe zones to hold their peace, and give them time to consult, stressing that, the consultation they talked about then, will be kick started on Monday, 22nd May 2017, and after it’s fruitful completion, they will then issue a press release on the authentic and unanimously accepted stand of Orlu zone on the zoning of Imo governorship position and the future of Orlu zone come 2019, in the spirit of give and take.
They groups advised Imolites to ignore and disregard all statements, opinions, sentiments and press releases, purportedly made or issued on behalf of Orlu zone, as null, void and of no effect because they are efforts in futility.
