Members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC and the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP in the All Progressive Congress, APC are regrouping for the 2019 Imo State governorship contest.

The APC is an amalgam of the CPC, ANPP and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) .

They are the foundation political parties that formed the All Progressive Congress, APC at the centre that trickled down to the states.

It is also made of up of the breakaway New PDP and a faction of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.

The group has been in the cold in the APC in Imo State due to the dominance of Okorocha’s Rescue mission disciples that dominated his present government.

Okorocha joined the APC with a faction of the Imo state chapter of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA that are loyal to him during the formative stages of the APC in 2014. Some APGA members who went with him to APC such as Martin Agbaso later re- defected to the PDP.

After the APC won the governorship election in 2015, many had expected that Okorocha would be magnanimous to concede some political positions to them. He never did as the CPC and ANPP blocs in Imo State were left out in appointments and were never carried along in the affairs of the government.

This newspaper gathered that with the 2019 elections drawing close, the group have begun holding meetings to strategize ostensibly on how to re capture power in the state in 2019.

A source at one of the meetings said the group will metamorphose into another group with a name that will appeal to the aggrieved and disenchanted members of the Imo society who are displeased with Okorocha’s style of government.

One of the leaders of the group said “it is unimaginable how the mother political parties that formed the APC at the centre are been relegated to the background in Imo State. There is nobody from the old CPC, ANPP or the ACN blocs that was accommodated in this government. This has to stop”

It was unclear who the arrow head of the group is in the state though fingers point at some of the old ANPP/CPC chieftains.

One of them is Hon Emeka Nwajiuba who was a notable member of the CPC in the country who played a key role in the formation of the APC in 2014. He served in one of the committees that shaped the formation of the APC at the national level.

Nwajiuba was a member of the House of Representatives and speculations has been rife that he will plunge into the Imo governorship contest soon. A Buhari loyalist, Nwajiuba is said to be the rallying point for CPC bloc in Imo State and a group, Grassroot Liberation Movement was formed to oil his ambition.

His governorship ambition when unveiled will certainly spark some reactions but political analysts contend that the factor of zoning may not work in his favour.
