Despite the strong and resilient clamour by Owerri Zone to produce the next governor of Imo State in 2019, an aspirant from Orlu Zone has declared his intention for the governorship contest.
He is Hon. Mayor Chukwudi Eze, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Orlu/Oru East/ Orus Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Eze declared his ambition on the platform of the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Eze declared before the Charles Ezekwem led Imo State PDP loyal to the Ahmed Makarfi faction.
He is said to be a staunch ally of former Governor of Imo State, Achike Udenwa having headed ALGON Imo State during the latter’s tenure. His ambition has put a question mark if Orlu Zone is desirous to concede to Owerri zone to elect the next governor of the state.
Last week, a leader in the zone, Hon. Uche Onyeagocha said Owerri zone will not rest on its oars in ensuring that Owerri succeed in 2019. Onyeagocha is of the All Progressive Congress, APC
