The 2017 Federal budget was recently approved by the National Assembly. In the 2016 budget, Imo federal lawmakers were assigned some projects for their various constituencies.
The projects were captured under the zonal intervention projects of the Federal Government. Over N100 billion naira was set aside in the 2016 Budget for the funding of such projects.
During electioneering, the lawmakers tag such projects as dividends of democracy and use it as a campaign tool to seek re- election. The unsuspecting voters seem not to know that the projects are captured in the Federal Budget and funds from the federal purse provided for it.
Imo State has three senators, Senator Sam Anyanwu (Owerri), Senator Benjamin Uwajumuogu, and Senator Hope Uzodinma.
