The Imo State Police Command have arrested a gang of five women which specializes in child trafficking. The women were nabbed after stealing and selling a three year old baby for N600,000 in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.
Parading the suspects to journalists in Owerri, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike was full of praise for Surveillance Unit of the Command led by Bassey Asamba, a Superintendent of Police for going the extra mile to Lagos to rescue the child.
He said the act of the women was shameful.
He said in the 21st century when people are engaging in productive activities, like going to the moon “ these ones are shamelessly engaging in buying and selling God’s beautiful creation”
“ To learn that they sold this handsome child for a pittance of N600,000 is most annoying and shameful” he said.
The Police boss said soon the suspects will be arraigned in court to answer their charges, saying the gang is a criminal chain.
The Police Commissioner said the Police officer whom the suspects accused of being part of the gang was undergoing an Orderly room trail and charged to court.
One of the suspects, Okere who allegedly stole the child at a funeral ceremony confessed to the crime, but said one Policeman who he gave his name as Felix planned and executed the criminal act with her.
