Gunmen sunday night attacked the State Secretary of Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Ray Emeana at his residence.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, Hon Emeana said four gun wielding men trailed him to his house located at Akwakuma in Owerri North Local Government Area. He said he was trailed to his house and when he managed to escape, they began to shoot sporadically in the air.
Emeana who last week engaged in a war of words with a member of another faction of the PDP, said he thanked God for his escape.
The PDP scribe who was flanked by his colleagues in the state executive committee of the party, said he has reported the matter to the Imo State Police command . He said the attack on his person is a desperate attempt by the opposition camp in the PDP to silence him and other party leaders.
Emeana belongs to the Charles Ezekwem led State Executives of the PDP loyal to the Ahmed Makarfi faction in Imo PDP. Two factions exist in Imo PDP. Each of them loyal to Ahmed Makarfi group and to the Ali Modu Sherrif faction respectively.
This newspaper was earlier informed late Monday morning that the party’s scribe was under attack.
According to Damian Opara, Publicity Secretary of Imo PDP, in a message to this newspaper said ” Hon Ray made a distress call saying that assassins/Kidnappers are in his house shooting and attempting to kill or kidnap him”
The Police is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
