The Imo State House of Assembly have approved a supplementary budget for 2016 raising eye brows why fianacial spending for last year got approval in the middle of 2017.

It however approved the appropriation of more than the sum of N115,778,973, 674 to the service the 2017 budget.

An email seen by this news website ostensibly from the House dated June 26, 2017 reads in part:

“ A Bill for a Law to Supplement (re-order) the 2016 Budget with the sum of Twenty Billion, Six Hundred and Eighty Two Million, Four Hundred and Fifty Eight Thousand, Four Hundred and Sixty Nine Naira only (N20,682,458,469) for the year ending 31st day of December, 2016 and for other related purposes. Note that this Supplementary being sought did not increase the total Budget size. After being adopted as a working document, it went through third reading and the House thereafter passed it into law. It now awaits executive accent.

“A Bill for a Law to appropriate the Sum of (N115,778,973,674). One Hundred and Fifteen Billion, Seven Hundred and Seventy Eight Million, Nine Hundred and Seventy Three Thousand, Six Hundred and Seventy Four Naira to the services of the Government of Imo State of Nigeria for the year ending on thirty-first day of December, Two Thousand and Seventeen and for other related purposes. This excludes the consolidated revenue fund charges of N15,364,170,603 hence a total budget of N131,143,144,277. After being adopted as a working document, it went through third reading and the House thereafter passed it into law. It now awaits executive accent”
Further clarifications on this matter proved abortive as none of the media handlers of the House obliged to speak to this website on the development.
Other matters contained in the release include the set up of an ad hoc committee headed by Hon. Nkenna Nzeruo with Hon Chiji Collins and Hon Uche Agabiga as members to screen Dr. Jones Uzoka and report back to the House onJuly 6, 2017.
