The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has said elections would be boycotted in the five South East States. He said the Anambra State governorship election which will hold on November 18 would serve as litmus test if the Nigerian government fails to conduct a referendum for the actualization of Biafra.
A video seen on You Tube showed Kanu speaking to a crowd of protesters in his father’s compound in Abia State.
Reports said it is not known when he made the speech. It would be a violation of conditions set by Justice Binta Nyako if Kanu had made the speech after his release from detention.
Kanu is facing charges of treasonable felony at the Federal High Court in Abuja. He was granted bail in April 2017 after more than a year in detention. The Justice had listed 12 conditions for his bail.
The You Tube video which lasted for 16 minutes seen on Tuesday showed Kanu saying that no elections would also hold in the region during the 2019 general elections. He said he would not relent in his agitation for Biafra, saying the “ whole of Biafra land will not vote for any President”
“There will be no Senator, there will be no House of Reps, there will be no House of Assembly and there will be no Councilor-ship elections in Biafra land if they (federal government) fail to call for a referendum”
“Nigerian government should build as many prisons as possible to jail all Biafrans because there is no going back and we are ready to go there (prisons) unless the federal government gives us Biafra” he said
