The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has directed the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State to arrest and investigate members of the Arewa Youth Consultative forum for issuing threats to Igbos to leave the North.
The IG’s order is coming on the heels of the firm posture of South East Governors who also condemned the threat.

Idris gave the order at a meeting with Commissioners of Police and other top ranking officers on Thursday in Abuja. He warned that no group of persons or individual had the right to threaten or ask any individual to leave his or her place of residence in any part of the country.
The I9 Northern State Governors had yesterday vowed to deal with those who issued the threats just as Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El Rufai had spoken in similar vein earlier.
Meanwhile, the governors of the five South East states have told Igbos living in the Northern part of Nigeria to remain clam and go about their businesses without fear of being attacked. They assured of total security despite the three months ultimatum given to Igbos to leave the region by a coalition of Northern youths.
Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, spoke on behalf of his colleagues at a news conference in Abakaliki.
He described the ultimatum as provocative and mischievous, calling on the Northern leaders to quickly take actions that will nip in the bud the intended plot of the youth “ in order to ensure that the grim history of the past is not repeated”
