Residents of Owerri, Imo State capital are leaving in fear over the frequent collapse of residential buildings.
In a week, four buildings collapsed in different parts in Owerri West Local Government area.
This website had at the weekend reported that a three storey building at Umuguma, a tiny community in Owerri West Local Government Area, collapsed to the rubbles leaving scores dead and many injured.
Another three storey building located along the Federal University of Technology, Owerri road also in Owerri West went down, while a four storey building at Ulakwo junction also in Owerri West LAG also collapsed.
At the weekend, a one storey building at Oforola community also in Owerri West LGA went down unexpected killing a man, his wife and two children
Many of the injured are receiving medical attention at various hospitals from the mishap. This has sent fear down the spine of residents who are wondering over the frequent collapse of the buildings.
No State official has proffered answers to the frequency of the collapse of the buildings but there is the suspicion that poor construction and lack of supervision by relevant authorities could be the cause.
Chief Paul Ejikeme, a landlord in Umuguma called for a thorough review of the houses under going construction in the areas affected pointing out that more buildings may collapse if relevant authorities fail to take appropriate action.
