As part of its determination to ensure the realization an Imo State Governor of Owerri Zone extraction in 2019, youths in the zone under the aegis of Ohaneze Youth, Owerri zone chapter, have pledged to mobilize 10,000 youths per local government.
Owerri zone has nine local governments and has strongly agitated for the Imo governorship seat in 2019.
This was disclosed by the Secretary of the forum, Oparaugo Emmanuel when the group visited a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Uche Onyeagocha. He said the youths will not sit back and allow Orlu zone or any other zone that had produced more governors in the state than Owerri zone to take over Government House in 2019.
He said the measure is not confrontational but to drum the need for the zone to be prepared for the onerous battle ahead. The Forum’s scribe stated that the youths will come with their voters card and vote for only Owerri zone candidates during the 2019 election.
Earlier, leader of the group, Aririguzo Emmanuel said Orlu and Okigwe zones have had more than a fair share of Imo governorship, stating that the time has come for them to rise and take what rightly belongs to them.
He said a Unity football tournament will be organized by the group for the youths in Owerri zone as part of its sensitization programme.
In his remarks, a leader in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, Chief Val Okere (Amadioha Ngor Okpala) said a “ political fatwa” will be declared on any son or daughter of Owerri zone that agitates for Deputy Governorship position to an Orlu governorship candidate. He decried the level of systemic marginalization of the zone in virtually all sectors in Imo State particularly in the Civil Service and tertiary institutions.
Earlier, Hon Onyeagocha welcomed the youths initiative and condemned the activities of the present government in Imo State.
He said all hands must be on deck to champion the crusade of Owerri zone to produce the next governor of Imo State, lamenting that the State has been badly mismanaged by Governor Okorocha.
