One Mrs. Chioma Fidelis has been paraded by the Imo State Police Command for exchanging her two month old son, Favour Fidelis, for half bag of rice, six chairs, cement and N200,000 cash.
Chioma admitted that she indeed used her son for the purpose because she conceived her child through an unwanted pregnancy. She said while she went through difficulties raising her son until she was introduced in the trade by barter business by one of her accomplices, Chidinma Unakalamba who advised her to sell her son.
Chioma who hails from Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, said she found the option attractive because the baby was suffering from poor health and also because she had no one to assist her to carter for the child’s needs.
Her accomplice, Unakalamba who was also paraded alongside Chioma and others, reportedly confessed to selling the baby to a couple who were in desperate need for a male child.
According to her, the baby was sold for N600,000 to the couple.
Trouble began when the Couple told the mother of the child that they paid N700,000 for her son.
Unakalamba admitted that she took N137,000 she spent on the child’s medical bills and gave her mother, Chioma N200,000 and pocketed the balance of the money.
