Imo PDP: Sherrif Men Lobby Makarfi, As Iwuanyanwu, Udenwa, Chikwe, Others Converge In Owerri

Reports reaching this news website at the weekend has revealed that some key stakeholders in the Ali Modu Sherrif faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State had reached out to Ahmed Makarfi, the national caretaker committee chairman of the party.

The meeting was said to have taken place in Kaduna State. The group loyal to Senator Hope Uzodinma, Senator representing Imo West Senatorial zone were said to have met Makarfi. It was unverified what the outcome of the meeting was but those in the know said they expressed displeasure how some top chieftains of the party have been going about claiming to have conquered them despite the no victor, no vanquished slogan of the Makarfi led Committee.

Shortly after the Supreme Court ruling that recognized Makarfi as the authentic leadership of the party, his loyalists in Imo State took full control of the party in the state.  One of the strong backers of Makarfi Committee and the Charles Ezekwem state executives in Imo State, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha had gone on a victory dance on the streets of Owerri.  This attracted fierce reactions from the Nnamdi Anyaehie led faction loyal to Senator Hope Uzodinma and Ali Modu Sherrif who said the no victor, no vanquished is nothing but a mere slogan.

This is coming on the heels of the resolve of the party in the state to close ranks and unite ahead of the 2019 governorship election in the state.

At an expanded Caucus meeting of the party held at its 98 Okigwe road, Owerri, party leaders including Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, former Governor of Imo State, Achike Udenwa, former National Woman Leader of the party, Ambassador Dr. (Mrs) Kema Chikwe, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and other party leaders pledged to work for the success and victory of the PDP in the general elections in 2019.

State party chairman, Charles Ezekwem said the people of Imo State are tired of the APC led government in the state.  He said the people of the state are looking up to the PDP to salvage the state from the grips and rudderless governance of the APC government.

Ezekwem said the party must stick to mechanisms that will enhance and improve internal democracy in the party saying only those that can win elections get the party tickets.
