The Nnewi Diocese has announced the suspension of church services at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Amakwa- Ozubulu, Anambra State.
The Diocese said the order will be in place until policemen leave the church premises.
Last Sunday, a gunman opened fire on worshipers at the church leading to the death of 13 persons and leaving many injured.
The Director of Communications, Nnewi Catholic Diocese, Rev. Fr. Hyginus Aghaulo was quoted to have said that the Diocese would not compel the police out of the church because they are doing their work.
He said the church is already looking for an alternative venue.
He said: “There are many aspects to the Ozubulu incident and because it is a criminal offence, we are not going to pressurize the police to leave the church without completing their work.
“If the police remove the security gadgets mounted round the church, we will use it on Sunday; otherwise we will find an alternative place. There is no way we can muscle the police out of the church.” he said
