President Muhammadu Buhari has communicated to the National Assembly informing it of his readiness to resume duty from London.

In a letter to the National Assembly, the President said he has now assumed his role as the President of the Federal Repbulic of Nigeria with effect from Monday

Buhari had left for London on May 7, 2017, and handed the reins of government to the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, who functioned as the Acting President.

He had on Sunday returned to the country after spending over 100 days in London treating an undisclosed illness.
A statement by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said the president’s letter was in line with constitutional provision of the country.

The letter reads in part: “In compliance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), I write to intimate that I have resumed my functions as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Monday, 21st August, 2017, after my medical follow-up in the United Kingdom.”
