Mass Defection Looms In Imo PDP, Hope Uzodinma’s Camp May Join APC, Aggrieved Stakeholders Set For APGA

Uncertainty now looms for the Imo State chapter of the Peoples  Democratic Party PDP as stakeholders in the camp of Senator Hope Uzodinma may head to the All Progressive Congress, APC

The move is predicated on the recent meeting a former national chairman of the PDP, Ali Modu Sherrif held last week with Vice President Yemi Osibanjo.

Senator Uzodinma is a key ally of Modu Sherrif.

The meeting which could be a prelude to Sherrif’s return to the APC, a party which he was a founding member, will rub off on the state chapter of the PDP in Imo State as Senator Uzodinma’s men in the party are likely to follow suit.

Senator Uzodinma and his camp in Imo PDP are known to be very formidable with far reaching political tentacles across the state. Having lost out in the battle for the soul of Imo PDP now in the grip of loyalists of Senator Ahmed Makarfi, a move to the APC is imminent.

A pro APC support group led by Vitalis Ajumbe had last week called on Sherrif to immediately return to the APC.

The defection of Cairo Ojuogoh, a stanch supporter of Modu Sherrif to the APC seem to signal the beginning of the movement of pro Sherrif men across the country to the governing party.

Aside the Uzodinma camp that may leave the PDP any moment from now, this newspaper gathered that some aggrieved PDP members in Imo State are also making plans to join the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA in the State.

The stakeholders are mainly those who were non aligned to either the Sherrif or Makarfi camps when the battle for control of the PDP in the state was fierce.

One of the party chieftains who spoke to this newspaper on condition of anonymity said “We are leaving for APGA because the no victor, no vanquished policy preached by Makarfi at the national level is not been replicated in Imo PDP”

This is the major grouse of the group of stakeholders who said the present Imo PDP lacks acomodation and have been hijacked by a powerful politician who is desperate to actualize his governorship ambition at all cost even to the detriment of the party.

“We are no longer comfortable with what we see in Imo PDP. We thought after the Supreme Court judgment, the party will open its doors based on the no Victor,No Vanquished policy but the opposite is the case.

“We have to move on because the way the party is run now, there is no hope it will be that alternative Imo people need to rescue them from the bondage of the APC rudderless leadership” said one of the leaders of the party.

This newspaper learnt that the mass move to APGA is backed by some top PDP chieftains in the State who are nursing political ambitions.

A source said an elaborate ceremony for the movement to APGA may come up at the end of October.
