The Imo State College of Education Ihitte Uboma is set to start full academic activities on October 2017 with two thousand students drawn from Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the institution pre NCE programme.

Dr. Chris Osuegbu, the Provost of the institution gave the assurance on Thursday 21st September 2017 while conducting the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education and Tertiary Institutions, Prof. Nnamdi Obiaraeri around the college facilities.

Osuegbu pointed out that the institution has all it takes to start the first four courses approved by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), adding that the College of Education will start officially on October with two thousand students.

He noted that; “So far, we are getting positive results. The college has been approved and recognized by both JAMB and NCCE. We thank Governor Rochas Okorocha for making it possible within a short period of time. We are set to receive the students sent by JAMB come October this year, the college has the capacity to take more than ten thousand students but we are starting with two thousand.”

Osuegbu stressed that the institution is in JAMB website, pointing out that his administration will embark on foreign exchange programme for both staff and students of the institution to add value and raise the quality of education in the college within a short time.

According to the Provost who appealed to the government to effect the immediate relocation of the existing secondary school in the campus to its permanent site; “currently, we have four schools, School of Art, School of Languages, Science and General Studies, we expect to increase the number sooner.”

While addressing academic and management staff of the institution at the College Board room, Prof. Nnamdi Obiaraeri who was on a familiarization visit, commended the staff of the college for sustaining the vision of the governor, noting that free and qualitative education is the flagship of the rescue mission government.

“I’m happy with what I have seen on ground, the strength of character. I want to tell you that the governor will be happy that his bigger vision of having a better college of education in Imo State is 90% obtainable. The governor means well for Imo people and he strongly believe that education is an empowerment tool. It is not easy to pioneer an institution and posterity will appreciate your efforts in nurturing this college to maturity.” he maintained.
Obiaraeri who expressed profound gratitude to the host community for their support however used the opportunity to appeal to all indigenes of Okigwe Zone to support Governor Rochas Okorocha government, arguing that he has given the zone a true sense of belonging.

He further adviced the staff to adhere and adopt digital system both in their administrative and academic, stressing that everything in Imo State is going digital.

“This is a legacy project that will outlive everybody. The governor has done well and my job is to carry the governor’s vision on education. I encourage you to keep up the team spirit and approach your challenges together.

“Rescue Mission administration is not a jamboree government and education is the key strength of the governor.” Obiaraeri stressed
