The battle on who takes over from Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha in 2019 has taken a new dimension with strong contenders in the governor’s camp now making frantic and desperate efforts to get the nod of His Excellency for the plum job.
Earlier in the week, this online newspaper had reported that Okorocha may have penciled down George Eche, the Secretary to the Government of Imo State as his successor.
The report attracted some flak from suspected political opponents who “invaded” the phone lines of our publisher and reporters seeking for refutal of the report.
One of the callers described the report as sponsored in a bid to sway public support for the SGI. The Editorial team of this newspaper insists that was not the case as the report emanated from a credible source who is neck deep in the Governor’s succession plans. This is our stand.
However, that report has triggered some more reactions as contenders for Okorocha’s job in 2019 within the Governor’s camp have intensified their strategies. A newspaper report claimed that the Governor is set to make a formal announcement on who succeeds him soon.
But such announcement, according to our sources, may not come so soon because of certain “unclear” political developments with the All Progressive Congress, APC that will be a huge factor in aiding Okorocha decide who his successor will be from his political camp.
