Information reaching this online newspaper indicate that parents are making panic withdrawals of their pupils in various nursery and primary schools in Owerri.
No reason has been given for the panic withdrawal. It was gathered that rumours filtered into Owerri metropolis in the afternoon hours that some local authorities in neighbouring Anambra State allegedly in company with some soldiers were injecting pupils with some unknown substance and are on the verge of coming down to Owerri.
A parent who was sighted by our reporter returning home with her ward before closing hours claimed that she had to rush down to the school to withdraw her child when she heard that some fake immunization officials were injecting pupils with the unknown substances in a bid to wade off the deadly monkey pox.
There is no reported case of monkey pox in Imo State and the entire South East. Monkey pox broke out in Bayelsa State last week and has spread to Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Ogun and Ekiti States.
An Owerri based medical practitioner, Dr. Phillip Njemanze had cautioned Imo people to be wary of the disease which can be contacted through handshakes.
