Anxiety Grip APC Chieftains Over Looming Fresh Appointments

Top chieftains of the All Progressive Congress in the South East have been upbeat over reports of fresh appointments to be made by President Muhammdu Buhari.

Sources told this newspaper that President Muhammadu Buhari is set to concede some key appointments in his government to the South East region.

The President had hosted some South East leaders in Abuja recently where issues affecting the region were discussed.

Sources said as a pacifying move by the President towards the region, a former senate president, Ken Nnamani may have tipped for the position of Secretary to Government of the Federation.

A former Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Martin Elechi is said to have been pencilled down for a top Board appointment.

More appointments to be drawn from the South East APC is said to have been considered as part of moves by the President to re jig his administration’s disposition towards the region which has been on the low ebb since he assumed office on May 29,2015.

President Buhari has been accused of marginalizing the South East region with lopsided appointments that favoured his Northern region.

This led to unrest in the region with the agitation for Biafra championed by the now proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, led by Nazi Nnamdi Kanu.

However, it was learnt that the news of the looming appointments have put anxiety on some chieftains of the party in the region who have also intensified their  lobbying for one juicy position or the other.

“With reports of a cabinet reshuffle in the air and some board appointments to be made, some of the APC chiefs who have been in limbo since Buhari was elected President have intensified their lobbying” a source said.
