Keke riders in Owerri (Tricycle operators) have been banned from plying major roads in Owerri, Imo State capital.

Our reporters who went round the city observed that no Keke rider plied major roads such as Wethedral, Bank Road and Okigwe road.

This caused many people to trek long distances as fewer taxi cabs codenamed “Taximo” were seen ferrying passengers on these roads.

However, Keke operators were seen on adjoining streets as passengers were scrambling and struggling to catch up with them.

The Imo State government had announced its intention to ban Keke operations in the State in September.

Pleas from the operators to the State Governor,Rochas Okorocha on October 1,2017 forced the governor to shift the ban to December 1st.
