Nigeria’s Minister of State for Education, Anthonyy Anwuka has been flown to the United States for medical treatment.

This newspaper was informed that this was announced by Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu at a press briefing on the World Teachers Day in Abuja.

Adamu  did not disclose the ailment of his junior colleague but urged those at the event to rise for a prayer for the speedy recovery of Mr. Anwukah.

“Please permit me to ask us to say a minute prayer for the Minister of State who is away in the U.S to receive medical treatment for an illness,” Mr. Adamu said immediately after the introduction of key officials at the briefing.

According to the minister, Mr. Anwukah needed prayers from Nigerians especially stakeholders in the education sector.
Mr. Anwukah was said to have attended a Federal Executive Council meeting two weeks ago wearing a cervical collar.

He is from Imo State and in law to Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.

The Minister of Education, Prof Anthony Anwukah has been reportedly diagnosed with prostrate and urinary ailments.

It has been reported that the Minister has been reported to the United States for treatment.

The Minister Special Assistant (Media and Communication), Anthony Akuneme reportedly confirmed that his principal was sick.

He denied that his medical case was not a case of poison.

PUNCH newspaper quoted the Media aide saying “ “It is the normal sickness of old people, prostate problem. But it is not a very serious matter. It is just that he decided to rest in the US. As far as the education ministry is concerned, he is not very sick. It is not like he collapsed or anything,” the source said.

He said, “No, who told you that he was poisoned? What I am telling you is more authentic. It is just normal illness. The minister went for a routine check-up to the United States. He travelled last week and is expected to be back on September 16. He was at the last FEC meeting before he travelled.”
