An Owerri based newspaper publisher and Imo State co-coordinator, Our Mumumudondo Movement, Comrade Precious Nwadike has raised an alarm alleging threats to his dear life.

A statement by the Movement’s Publicity Secretary, Adebayo Ralpheal reads:

“We have observed with total dismay and trepidation, the consistent threats and serious attempts on the life of our gallant comrade, Nwadike Precious, Coordinator of Imo State Chapter of OurMumuDonDo and publisher of an Owerri based Newspaper, the Community Watchdog, by suspected agents of Imo State government.

“We are aware that our member had in the past few months, petitioned the Nigeria Police Force through the Inspector General and Commissioner of Police, Imo State command over these incessant harassments and unlawful threats to his life.

“We are also aware that all efforts to get the office of the CP Imo State to investigate the alleged threats and attempts on his life have continually proved abortive and fallen on deaf ears.

“OurMumuDonDo movement is also aware that our member has a case pending in court with some government personnel and we therefore frown at government using state powers or instrument to intimidate or repress Nwadike, the publisher of Community Watchdog Newspaper, which published a story on the 3rd of November 2015, alleging that a certain amount of money said to be part of Imo State’s share of the bailout fund was missing from the house of a government official. Since the matter went to court and became public, there have been series of physical, verbal and online threats on the life of the diligent publisher who is only carrying out his duty as a Concerned Nigerian and law-abiding citizen of the country.

“The latest threat on Nwadike’s life was on Saturday, October 7, 2017, circa 17:55PM, through a phone call from the phone number 08038997135 while he was at a popular recreation centre in Owerri.

“We therefore call on the Nigerian Police authorities to give proper attention and thorough investigation to these serial petitions on threats to the life of a law-abiding citizen, the first of which was made on December 11, 2015 captioned “Renewed threat to assassinate, Comr. Precious Nwadike – Community Watchdog publisher and editor in chief.”

“Let those involved allow the judiciary to perform its function. The movement believes in the courts of law in our great country and the court remains the last hope of the common man. Justice should be allowed to prevail over intimidation, execution, fiat and threats to life.

“The issue of bailout fund has remained controversial as those who were supposed to be the beneficiaries of the fund have not been paid up till now especially the Imo pensioners and their cause cannot be wished or washed away by anyone who pleads their cause. Let the police rise up to this clarion call and do the needful to protect the life of comrade Nwadike Precious.
