Front line politician in Imo State and a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Alex Obi is among top politicians ready to join the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.

Obi was former chairman of the PDP in Imo State and he is easily remembered for his political sagacity and acumen when he headed the party during the reign of Governor Achike Udenwa.

The Medical doctor cum politician was also head of Udenwa’s political machinery known called the Redemption group.

The group plotted Udenwa’s political victory in 1999 and 2003.

In 2007, Obi and co lost the leadership of the PDP in Imo State to a faction called the Abuja group made up of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Dr (Mrs) Kema Chikwe, Chief Festus Odumegwu, Chief Tony Ezenna and others.

He later had a frosty political relationship with Udenwa’s successor,Ikedi Ohakim as both engaged in fierce political altercations.

After Ohakim’s reign,Obi went into political cooler as he lost grip of the PDP in the State. He joined forces with Senator Ifeanyi Ararume as the duo decamped to the now defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN in 2007. During the electioneering period, Obi headed the Alliance for Good Governance, a pressure group that challenged the action of the Ohakim government.

He has been in the cooler for a long period making sparse appearance in PDP meetings, a development which prompted his move to join APGA.
