Some political leaders in Owerri zone met at the weekend to deliberate on how to produce the next governor of the State in 2019.
The zone had been complaining of marginalization for a long time having not produced the State Governor since 1999.
The summit with the theme Coalition for Owerri Re-awakening- the Owerri Question was however dominated by chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP led by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Members of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ezenwa Onyewuchi and Hon. Henry Nwawuba.
APC chieftains were also in attendance. Those present at the event include former Secretary to Imo State Government, Sir Jude Ejiogu, a former Commissioner, Alaribe Ihekwumere.
In his speech, Chief Iwuanyanwu, called for unity of purpose among Owerri people in realizing the 2019 guber project, recalling how a group of people in 2015 extorted money from politicians in Owerri zone while working for others zones.
He warned stakeholders to be wary of such act in the coming dispensation. He however predicted that only three political parties will produce the next governor of the State in 2019.
In his opening remarks, Chairman of the Summit and renowned banker, Dr. Paschal Dozie said the journey to Government House, Owerri cannot be achieved by divisive tendencies and abusive words by Owerri people. He sued for co- operation among stakeholders.
A legal luminary, Sir Dee Nwigwe (SAN) called for unity and understanding calling on stakeholders to play down on which of the political blocs will produce the governor of the state.
