PRESS RELEASE#

Traditional Rulers in Okigwe zone of Imo state have called for a law for the creation of more Local Government authorities in Okigwe zone.

The Deputy Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, and Chairman, Okigwe zone council of Traditional rulers, HRH Eze Matthew Onwenu made the call during a ‘well done visit” to the Speaker, Imo State House Of Assembly, Rt. Hon (Dr.) Acho Ihim in his country home at Umuonyeneri, Umualumake autonomous community in Okigwe Local Government area of Imo state.

The traditional rulers frowned at what they referred to as “a grossly inadequate number of Local Government authorities in Okigwe zone.”

According to the Deputy Chairman, a situation whereby some senatorial zones in Imo state have twelve (12) local Government areas whereas Okigwe zone is stagnated at just six (6) was not onlyinfradignatatem but also anti developmental in all its ramifications.

According to Eze Onwenu, by virtue of the law establishing Local Government Areas in Nigeria, the council is charged with the responsibility of acting as a catalyst for the development of rural communities in Nigeria consequently, ‘a dearth of Local Government Areas in Okigwe zone have contributed largely to the underdeveloped nature of the zone’.

The traditional rulers called on appropriate authorities at the national and state Assemblies to quicken action in addressing their demand for justice, equity and fairness.

The traditional rulers who said that they came to see the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly on what they called his sterling performances as the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Africa Region, where he served out meritoriously and for his adroit skill in handling the Imo state house of Assembly for over two years and for making them proud.

The traditional rulers said, “we have come to say to you,‘THANK YOU’ for making us proud! We have come to say, Rt. Hon Acho Ihim, you have done well as our son, you did not, have not and will not put us to shame, we love and trust you.”

Responding, Rt. Hon Acho Ihim who said he was overjoyed for the visit of Okigwe zone traditional rulers to him said he was humbled by their visit.

He attributed the successes observed in his life by the traditional rulers to God’s handiwork and to the magnanimity of Governor Okorocha and his unfeigned love for him.

Speaker Ihim eulogized his colleagues, members of the 8th House Assembly for what he described as their unflinching support for him, unmitigated desire for the development of Imo state and determination for stability in governance in Imo state.
