A top chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State, is in talks with a top leader of the All Progressive Congress, APC.

The PDP Chief is a ranking member of the National Assembly.

This newspaper gathered that talks of his possible move to the APC was part of series of discussions with a top APC leader in the South East.

The move is said to have been ongoing for sometime but resumed in earnest after the Supreme Court delivers judgement on the leadership tussle that rocked the party for a long time.

The meeting took place in Abuja before the 75th birthday ceremony of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu which both of them attended.

The PDP chief was wooed by the APC leader to join the ruling party and secure another ticket to the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly for his senatorial zone.

This development has put to rest the ongoing speculation that the APC leader is also interested in the seat when the tenure of his office  expires in 2019.

Sources said the PDP chieftain is said to have his sights on the 2019 governorship contest but was persuaded by the APC leader to re consider his decision.

“The party leader was told in clear terms to shelve his ambition for governorship and re enter the senatorial race for another term.

“It was unclear if he consented to the plan but he appears determined to stop in the tracks the candidature of another PDP heavyweight who is eying the governorship seat on the PDP platform”

The source continued “It was a brief meeting but a lot was discussed. Nothing is certain but it is clear that in the days to come there would be though negotiations as the meeting was a confirmation that a lot of political negotiations will determine the outcome of the 2019 governorship election”
