A new twist has emerged in the ongoing fued between some Local Government Chairmen of the All Progressive Congress, APC and Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha over allegations bordering on oath taking.
Some of the aggrieved Chairmen now have the backing of the Abuja group of politicians of the party who recently facilitated their meeting with some officers of the APC National Working Committee in Abuja.
Trouble had burst between the Governor and some of the Chairmen when Okorocha accused them of taking for a governorship aspirant an oath in exchange for their loyalty.
The allegation has pitched the Chairmen against the Governor. While some of the chairmen denied the allegations and are making frantic efforts to prove their loyalty to the Governor, the recalcitrant ones have the backing of some political forces of the party based in Abuja.
The Abuja group of the party is vehemently opposed to Governor Rochas Okorocha and have intensified their onslaught to snatch the Imo APC governorship ticket from whomever he has positioned as his successor.
This has led to a deep rift in Imo APC as the Governor’s camp now face a huge task to re capture the soul of the party before the 2019 governorship election.
