The division in Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP may have continued unabated over the forthcoming national convention scheduled to hold on December 9, 2017 in Abuja.

Five factions exist in the party in the state and are all laying claims to the leadership of the party. Of the five, three are very active as they have separate State Secretariats where they hold meetings.

The Chuks Ajaelu faction is backing Prof Tunde Adeniran for the national chairmanship position. Adeniran came into Owerri recently and was hosted by the faction.

Indications became clear last week that the Charles Ezekwem group may be rooting for Prince Uche Secondus. The Ezekwem group enjoys the recognition of the Ahmed Makarfi National Caretaker Committee.

The Nnamdi Anyaehie group is not known to backing any of the chairmanship candidates as this online news website was unable to  confirm their choice candidate for the chairmanship position. But a source said Chief Bode George one of the national chairmanship adpirants may be getting the support of the faction in Imo State.

However, the Ezekwem led state leadership seem to be having the edge as the Makarfi Caretaker Committee appears set to adopt the delegates from this group. This group is most likey to participate in the process of voting at the national convention as other factions seem not be getting the attention of Makarfi and co.

Last week, the Ezekwem group conducted special elections to select delegates to the December 9 non elective national convention.

Among those elected include former Governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa, a former Secretary to Imo State Government, Chris Okewulonu among others.
