The leadership tussle in Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP may be over following a ruling by an Owerri High Court which ruled that Charles Babatunde Ezekwem and co are the authentic State Executives of the party.
The Court warned Nnamdi Anyaehie and his men to stop parading themselves as the State Executives of the party.
A statement on the ruling and released to this online news platform by Damian Opara, Publicity Secretary, Imo PDP reads
“The Bar. Charles Ezekwem-led State Executives of the Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State Chapter was again confirmed as the authentic state executives of the party in Imo State.
This was sequel to the ruling of an Owerri High Court, which
struck out a suit filed by Bar. Nnamdi Anyaehie against the leadership of the party led by Bar. Charles Ezekwem.
The High Court struck out the suit for lack of Jurisdiction. The court went further to state that the matter before her was purely
a political matter, that Anyaehie and his co-travellers ought to have exhausted the internal mechanism for conflict resolutions available in the party before rushing to the court.
The Owerri High Court ruling today brought to an end the
purported leadership claim by Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie and his
co-travellers in Imo State PDP.
It could be recalled that soon after the confirmation of Senator Ahmed Makarafi-led National Caretaker Committee of the PDP by the Supreme Court, a letter was written to the Inspector General of Police by the National Caretaker Committee informing him that Bar. Charles Ezekwem and his Executive Committee members are the authentic executive members of the party in Imo Sate. The National Caretaker Committee went further to state that the Bar Charles Ezekwem-led IMO PDP should be accorded all assistance needed to function, including but not limited to helping them to transfer all the party property at No.47 Okigwe Road to the PDP’s new office at No. 98 Okigwe Road, Owerri. This information was properly communicated to the Commissioner of Police, Imo State for necessary action.
There is no gain saying the fact that the instructions of the Inspector General of Police was not carried out till date but rather the Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie purported executives stationed hoodlums at the former PDP office , preventing the authentic party official from transferring the property of the party to the new office, claiming that they have a case in court.
Now that the case has been struck out, the Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State, wants to use this medium to call on all the security agencies, i.e the Police, the DSS, especially the Nigeria Police Force to carry out the instructions of the Inspector General of Police by urgently dislodging all the hoodlums at the former party office,Owerri, and assist the party to recover all the PDP property that are in that office, because there is no other court matter that can be used as a ploy to connive with anybody to keep the authentic PDP leadership from taking control of the Party Property.
The PDP , Imo State, will for the umpteenth time restate that the umbrella of the party is big enough to accommodate all genuine members of the party who feel aggrieved in one way or the other.
Finally, the victory at the court today is a victory not only for the
PDP but a victory for Democracy.
