The School Feeding Programme of the Federal Government which kick started in Imo State is already causing some stir in Owerri Municipal.
This online news platform was informed that the programme was hijacked by Nneoma Women Group owned by wife of the State Governor, Nneoma Rochas Okorocha. Only women who belong to this group got the jobs to cook food and distribute to pupils at the cost of N7,000 per day.
This is already causing ripples in Owerri municipal where some women who also claimed to be members of the group alleged that the programme has been hijacked by a particular set of cooks that are employed to carry out the task.
This has caused some hiccups in the programme as the food is not going round the pupils in schools earmarked for the programme. Only one school, City School, Owerri, located at old Fire Service, Wethedral road, Owerri are getting the food at the moment.
An aggrieved woman who spoke to this online news platform said “Because a lot of us were not carried along, the food is not enough for the pupils as one cook and a distributor serve the pupils. This is inadequate because those who should take part in the exercise are not been carried along. Only a set of particular women do the buying and sharing and receive bank alerts of N7,000 for each cooking and sharing done”
The menu for the school feeding programme obtained by this newspaper shows that on Mondays Agidi and half egg are served the pupils, while mere beans are served on Tuesdays. Jollof rice is served on Wednesdays, while on Thursdays Potato and Vegetable are served. Agidi is repeated on Fridays.
The supply of eggs for the programme is alleged to come from the poultry farm of a top government official in Okorocha’s government and most time the egss are lifted from APC party office.
