Manufacturers Condemn Abandonment of Owerri Industrial Layout

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN have frowned at the neglect and abandonment of over 264 plots of land at the Imo Industrial layout located along Owerri- Onitsha road.

This was disclosed by the Chairman, MAN, Imo and Abia States Branch, Barr Anyanwu while presenting his address at the 30th Annual General Meeting in Owerri with the theme ” The IMPAC of Government, Policies On Manufacturing And Development: The South East Perspective.

He expressed his unhappiness with the Borrow Pit and ongoing excavation at the layout calling on the State government to intervene. He said many industrialists are eager to invest but their desire is being hampered by absence of an enabling environment.

He said the Association is working out plans to collaborate with Imo and Abia State Governments and other South East States, the Organized Private Sector to brainstorm on the challenges militating against manufacturing in the region.

Anyanwu who was re elected by the Association lambasted the Imo State government for doing nothing about Its Job, Job mantra describing it as a sham and a disservive to the youths.

In his presentation, MAN President, Dr.Frank Udemba blamed the level of under development in the manufacturing industry on the failure of Imo and Abia States Governments.

He advised them to encourage manufacturing by constructing good access roads, ensure adequate power supply and provide adequate security.
