The Supreme body that unites all students from Imo State known as National Association of Imo State students (NAISS) on Friday December 8, 2017 inaugurated its National Convention Committee.
The event which was held at Nicholas Iwuagwu 800 auditorium in Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri under the chairmanship of Dr. Harold Wilson Onumo had the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere as the special Guest of honour while Dr. Joe Ken Nzerem delivered a lecture on the topic that focused on Youths as the architects of their problems
Members of the committee inaugurated are: Comrade Isinwa Destiny from Federal Polytechnic Nekede who is the National Convention Committee as Chairman, Comrade Oledibe Constance from Federal Polytechnic Nekede (Vice Chairman), Comrade Ijioma Eberechukwu Favour from Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) as Secretary General.
Others are Comrade Opara Chima H from Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (Financial Secretary), Comr. Fortune Obieze of FUTO (Contact and Mobilization), Comr. Alex Ebonine Goodness O of Alvan Ikoku College of Education (Publicity Secretary), Prince Negus Omego Abyssinia from Imo State University (Treasurer) and Comr. Iyke Igweka of FECOLART (Member)
The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Martin Ohiri expressed satisfaction over the association that has been in existence for years. He assured that the Imo State Government is ready to partner with them to ensure proper protection of students welfare, adding that the State Government under the leadership of Governor Rochas Okorocha have the students and their education at heart.
Dr. Harold Wilson Onumo who was the chairman of the event charged the students to give adequate attention to their studies and advised them to support the committee to ensure the smooth emergence of credible students’ leaders.
Chief Fidel Onyeneke who is the Special Adviser to the Federal Polytechnic Nekede Rector on Media Matters said that NAISS was his most respected students body during his days in student unionism, maintaining that the leader of the committee, Comrade Destiny Isinwa is capable of providing credible results in all his assignments. He urged the Imo State government to continue to support NAISS in its programme.
Prof Protus Nathan Uzorma lauded the committee members for their tremendous achievements since their nomination and charged Imo State students to desist from acts of cheap political mobilization.
The Publisher of Community WatchDog Newspaper, Comrade Precious Nwadike described NAISS as a union very close to his heart during his school days and assured that he will provide all necessary support. He cautioned the leadership of NAISS to shun the habit of focusing total concentration on State and national politics rather than championing the cause of their fellow students.
The spiritual father of the day, Pastor Caleb Okeh of Christ Embassy who conducted the inauguration of NAISS National Convention Committee called on all students to pray for the committee members and asked God to grant the committee unity and successful journey in their new assignment.
The outgoing NAISS President, Comrade Sabinus Nwachukwu in his address noted that the newly inaugurated committee shall henceforth be in total control of NAISS pending when the next convention and election of the new executives will be completed.
