Hundreds of people came from far and near to witness the commissioning of Umuodu Umuihugba Medical Centre in Owerri municipal equipped by former Majority Leader of Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Lugard Osuji.
Hon. Osuji represents Owerri municipal state constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly.
Speaking at the commissioning of the centre before a tumultuous crowd that witnessed the event, Hon. Osuji said the centre was first attracted to Umuodu community by the Mayor of Owerri, Hon. CDB Williams, who is an indigene of the community, stating that he equipped the centre to render medical services to his people.
He said he renovated the hall and brought in some medical personnel from the United States to assist the local personnel on ground to manage the centre to effectively provide medical services to the people.
The lawmaker also said that he donated the centre alongside with the Osuji family in memory of one of his late brothers, Late Alswell Chinweoke Osuji, stating that he used his personal resources to get the Centre functional and fully equipped, in addition to several scholarships and job opportunities he has given out to his people.
Osuji said similar medical centers will be built in other communities in Owerri municipal particularly in Amawom community in order to ensure that his entire constituents benefit from medical services.
On why he resigned as Majority Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, he said he did so in the interest of his people, the Assembly and for the State.
Speaking while cutting the tape to signal the commissioning of the centre, the Imo State Commissioner of Health represented by Dr. Okeji said he is delighted with the centre, praising the efforts of Hon.Osuji for reviving the health centre.
In his remarks, the President General of Umuodu Umuihugba Development Union (UWDU), Surveyor Ferdinand Anoruo showered encomiums on the former Majority Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly for the equipping of the medical centre to standard with functional equipment.
The event was witnessed by the traditional ruler of Umuodu Community, Eze Linus Ihebom, Imo State Commissioner of Finance, Obinna Mbata, Owerri Municipal Council Chairman, Alex Orjini, Former Owerri Municipal Council Chairman, Nze Jeo Agor, first Mayor of Owerri, CDB Williams and many others.
The highlight of the event was the cutting of the tape by the representative of the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Okeji.
The health centre consists of female and male wards, Labour and Delivery room, reception.
