The Imo State Government on Christmas eve directed transition committee chairmen, traditional rulers to work in concert with security agencies to stop obstruction of highways and major raods during the yuletide period by communities along public highways in the guise of celebrating one festival or the other.

According to a statement by Nnamdi Obiareri, Commissioner of Information, the state government said this is unacceptable as it leads to unmitigated hardship to other road users and commuters due to influx of people into Imo State during this season.

“Consequently, the Transition Committee Chairmen and members of the Local Government Areas acting in concert with the Security agencies in their Local Governments, our Traditional Rulers and their Community Government Council Members and the ever vigilant Imo Community Watch personnel are to ensure that this practice of intentionally blocking public highways and major roads does not happen in their areas of jurisdiction” the statement stated
