Senator Representing Owerri zone in the senate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu said he decided to seek re- election for the second time as senator in order to advance the welfare and development of his people.
Addressing the State Executives of the PDP in Owerri, Senator Anyanwu said if given the mandate again, he will continue to advance the welfare of his people.
Senator Anyanwu had been speculated to run for governor of Imo State on the PDP platform.
This would have pitched him against a former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha who is also said to be eying the Imo PDP governorship ticket.
Anyanwu had demonstrated strong support for the PDP lately when he donated and equipped the Owerri zone office of the party.
At a civic reception in his honour held at Iho, Ikeduru LGA, his political godfather and a leader in the PDP, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu said he has endorsed the senator for a second term.
In apparent show of support for his re- election, Imo State PDP Chairman, Barr. Charles Ezekwem commended the senator for taking a bold step towards sustaining the democratic tenets of the PDP.
He said “The PDP today remains the reigning political party in the state. Moving round the state, Only PDP leaders both elected and non elected are celebrating Christmas with the people. While others lock their gates, we open ours, believing that the umbrella is too large to accommodate us”
Senator Anyanwu is expected to come up in the Senatorial contest with a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ezenwa Onyewuchi who is widely believed to be eying the Owerri zone senatorial seat.
