The need has been stressed for social and service clubs in the country to engage in promoting good governance through involvement in multi partisan dialogue and broad based mobilization of the citizenry.

This was disclosed by Hon. Sunny Onyeukwu, Special Adviser to the Minister of Science and Technology when members of Lions Club International District 4042 paid him a courtesy call in Owerri.

He said such constructive engagements by Service Clubs would consolidate democracy in the country as democracy does not begin and end with holding elections alone.

He explained that such clubs also have a huge role to play in promoting good governance in the country, recalling the role they played in ensuring the growth and sustenance of democracy in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Onyeukwu emphasized the need for purposeful servant leadership which he noted is one of the core objectives of the Lions Club.

He stated that the Lions Club represent those ideals he stands for, urging them not to relent and continue to play more active roles in promoting good governance.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Micheal Kagha said the Club has taken note of Hon. Onyeukwu’s track record which has earned him several awards in the recent past. He described him as a servant leader with fine qualities worthy of emulation.

In his contribution, a member of the group, Mr. Eze Oparaugo said Hon. Onyeukwu has touched the lives of many and commended him for his disposition towards humanity.

He recalled the salutary contributions of the Lions Club to humanity through raising funds to aid the needy and the less privileged, urging the Minister’s aide to support the efforts of the club.
