Frank Nneji, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Associated Bus Company, ABC last week joined the Imo State governorship race.
He is a member of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.
His entry into the contest expectedly sent mixed reactions. He has been known to have made a huge mark in the transport sector of Nigeria by successfully running a successful transport company that has contributed significantly to revolutionize the face of the transport sector in the country.
Analysts say having succeeded in the transport sector; it is time for Nneji to move into another venture- politics. It is not known if he can replicate such monumental feat in the transport sector in the political terrain considering how murky Nigerian politics is.
But he appears to enjoy some considerable level of goodwill among the populace at the moment as his ambition is higly favoured coming from Owerri zone which is agitating for an Imo State governor of Owerri zone extraction for a long time.
Owerri zone has not produced the Imo state governor since the advent of democracy in Nigeria in 1999 and this is one factor that may work in Nneji’s favour in the contest.
However, the influx of political heavyweights into the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA in Imo State lately does not make the quest by Nneji to grab the party’s governorship ticket easy.
In a state yearning for responsible and responsive leaders that can deliver good governance and dividends of democracy, he can be counted as one of the favourites judging from no political blemishes attached to his aspiration.
