The last may not have been heard in the ongoing rift between some members of the Imo State House of Assembly and Governor Rochas Okorocha over the botched 2018 budget.
A local newspaper in Owerri reported Monday that the lawmakers have threatened to dump Governor Okorocha and the All Progressive Congress,APC for the All Progressive Grand Alliance,APGA.
Trouble broke out when the House members refused to show up last Tuesday when Governor Okorocha wanted to present the 2018 budget.
The grivienaces of the lawmakers include the inability of the Governor to give them their constituency votes and an account of the two tranches of the Bail out funds released to the State by the Federal Government.
The Governor in retaliation allegedly issued threats to the lawmakers vowing to stop most of them from getting return tickets of the APC in 2019.
The threat may have compelled the lawmakers to have a rethink and contemplate fresh moves to survive politically in 2019 by dumping the APC for APGA.
Signs that there is fire on the mountain manifested when the House members suspended the Clerk of the House, Chris Duru last Thursday for eroding trust and confidence by leaking vital information of the House to the Executives.
A day after the suspension, the Speaker of the House, Acho Ihim in a statement reversed the Clerk’s suspension thus overruling his colleagues.
This has raised worries of a possible impeachment of the Speaker when the House reconvenes on Tuesday. However, this suspicion was dispelled by the Speaker’s media chief, Echerezuo who said none of such plots exist as it is the imagination of armchair journalists.
Speaking on the development, the Majority Leader, Lugard Osuji denied any rift between the House members and the Executives.
