Barely few hours after attempts to demolish New Market, Owerri failed, the market went on fire last night.
Traders had fiercely resisted the demolition of the market yesterday when Governor Rochas Okorocha visited. They had been earlier ordered to comply with the December 15 deadline to leave the market.
It was therefore strange that the market was set on fire by unknown persons.
The State Government is yet to issue an official statement on the development, but fingers are being pointed at the opposition in the state.
