Tony Nwulu Joins Imo Governorship Race

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tony Nwulu has declared his intention to become governor of Imo State.

Nwulu a native of Eziuodo, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area  of Imo State presently represents Oshodi- Isolo Federal Constituency 11 of Lagos State in the House of Representatives.

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, he  told newsmen in Owerri that he will serve the interest of the people of Imo State because he does not belong to any political camp and does not have a godfather.

“I will keep to my promises to Imo people. And I do not belong to any camp and I will relate with everyone equitably” he said.

In response to question on his chances in Imo PDP considering the array of political heavyweights in the party,  he made it clear that he will quit any political party that wants to mortgage the future of the people of Imo State.

On his plans for the state if elected governor, the lawmaker in a document outlining his agenda and plans for the state said he will pay due attention to the ills of past governments. He said each of the geo political zones will through the act of legislation have a Zonal Development Commission that will accelerate infrastructural development in each of the zones in the State.

He said the Zonal Development Commission is one out of the 11 important bills his administration will prepare for the Imo State House of Assembly that will drive the socio economic and political development of the state. He promised to review some policies of the present state government that does not align with the aspirations and expectations of the people.

“When we assume office, some policies will be reviewed particulary policies that are not development induced” he said

Other programmes on his plans  according to him, include an excellent pension plan and building an excellent elderly recreation park.

He harped on the need for an increased Internal Generated Revenue, IGR, stating that it is the duty of every government to work towards increasing its IGR.

The Federal lawmaker stated that hospitals, medical centres and schools will be handed back to the missions (churches) with a fund management to ensure quality and affordable education for children. He said Oguta Lake will receive top priority as it will be made an international tourist centre, while Nollywood and entertainment will gain boost in the state as an International Film village will be built by his administration.

E- Governance, concession of roads, access to water, ensuring quality governance, delivery of dividends of democracy will remain top priority for his administration.

He said his administration will also focus on education, power, transportation, social infrastructure, local government autonomy, health and tourism.

On land allocations, he stated “ before any land is acquired or used for government project, negotiations must be held with the locals and their entitlement or compensation of such land paid”

On how he managed to win a Federal constituency seat in Lagos State despite being an Imo State indigene, the lawmaker said he achieved such feat because he was sincere and open to them.

” I defeated an incumbent to emerge the representative of the people of Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency. I was sincere to them. And  I have been able to maintain a cordial relationship even with my political opponents in Lagos State”  he said

The Federal lawmaker is the sponsor  the NotToo Young To Run bill to deepen youth participation in governance at all levels which  is being practiced in 11 states of the federation.
