The senatorial ambition of Imo State Commissioner of Information, Prof. Nnamdi Obiareri is on course following a huge dose of support for his ambition from his people.
Recently, traditional rulers in Okigwe zone at the weekend endorsed the ambition of the Commissioner at his Amafu- Ihube country home in Okigwe Local Government Area.
Among the Royal fathers who openly backed the Commissioner’s senatorial ambition include Chairman of Okigwe Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Eze, Acho Ndukwe, HRH Eze Alisi, HRH Barr Victor Ogbonna, HRH Eze Ugbaja, HRH Eze Paul Ogbu, HRH Eze Igwegbe among others.
In his speech, Prof. Obiaraeri went memory lane narrating his contributions in uplifting and developing Okigwe spanning over 30 years. He frowned at some people who cannot point at anything meaningful they have done for the people and most times use their wealth to influence their elections in the past.
He told the Monarchs that the Governor’s endorsement on him was an act of God, stressing that if elected he will use his position as a senator to improve the lot of Okigwe people including the royal fathers.
The Information Commissioner said he did join the All Progressive Congress APC with an ambition, but stated that his endorsement from Governor Okorocha cannot be wished away.
According to the university don turned politician who noted that by 2019 his friend and brother senator Ben Uwajumogu who is the incumbent Senator must have done his best at the senate, vowed to enhance legislative representation in Okigwe zone through purposeful and quality representation.
He used the opportunity to declare that the administration of Okorocha has remained the only one that has shown real interest and love to develop Okigwe.
Obiaraeri highlighted the benefits of Governor Okorcha’s free education programme which he said has greatly reduced undue pressure on parents, adding that he is not going to the senate to be an on-looker, but rather a senator that will not only command respect among his colleagues, but will at the same time remain active and visible.
He applauded the Royal fathers for their support to the Rescue Mission Government of Governor Okorocha, charging them to be careful with politicians who may approach them now with all manner of gifts to work against the state government.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Acho Ndukwe said that they cannot work at cross purpose with the state government.
He on behalf of other traditional rulers declared that Prof Obiaraeri has all it takes to provide purposeful and visionary representation for Okigwe zone at the red chambers of the National Assembly.
