Trouble In South East APC, Stakeholders Reject Okorocha As Head, Campaign Council

The appointment of Governor Rochas Okorocha as Head, Campaign Council for the re election of President Muhammadu Buhari in the South East has been rejected by stakeholders in the party.

Reports said Some stakeholders of the party had gathered at the instance of the National Vice Chairman (South East) APC, Hon. Emma Eneukwu at a meeting at the instance of Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

The meeting took place at the residence of Minister of Employment, Chris Ngige. The party leaders were said to have given verifiable reasons why the Imo State Governor should not head the South East campaign council.

The Imo Governor was accused of unpopularity among Igbos and more importantly inability to provide effective leadership for the APC in the South East zone.

The loss of the two guber elections in the South East and his deliberate refusal to fund the party by virtue of his position as the only APC governor in the South East was also cited by the stakeholders as the reasons why the Imo Governor should not anchor Buhari’s re- election in the region.

Amaechi was said to have miffed by the avalanche of complaints and persuaded party stakeholders to accept the decision on the grounds that APC governors were appointed to take charge of Buhari’s re- election in 2019.

Further meetings would be held to deliberate on the matter.
