The race to the 2019 governorship election in Imo State is gathering momentum following the declaration by a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rt Hon, Emeka Ihedioha that he is ready to serve the state to correct the ills of the present administration.
Ihedioha, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of House of Representatives, said he is motivated and ready for the battle ahead.
According to a statement by his media aide, Chibuike Onyeukwu, Ihedioha spoke at the Inauguration of “ Team Ihedioha”, a support group in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
Ihedioha was received at Ubomiri by a mammoth crowd of supporters, party faithful and market women who danced and cheered where he reiterated his readiness to salvage the state from the bad governance and hopelessness
He said “With all humility, I want to assure you that I am motivated and ready for the battle ahead. It is also symbolic that, apart from other groups that have asked me to contest for governorship, Mbaitoli is the first LGA to have endorsed my candidature. I want to promise that by God’s grace and with your support, I will not disappoint you. PDP is the only party that can repair the colossal damage Governor Okorocha has caused our state”
According to the statement, the Coordinator of Team Ihedioha, Mbaitoli LGA Chapter, Chief Julius Onyenaucheya, while welcoming Chief Ihedioha to the Local Government Area assured him of the their loyalty and support for his governorship ambition, which he described as “timely and the only sure way of recovering and rebuilding Imo State.
Chief Onyenaucheya, a former Executive Chairman of Mbaitoli LGA and political strategist, called on Mbaitoli people across party divide to embrace the Ihedioha movement as the only means of developing and empowering the area.
Delivering his address, Hon. Henry Nwawuba, member representing Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said, “my brothers and sisters, Imo is in dire need of good governance. I don’t have too many things to say. Governor Rochas Okrocha has failed and I want to present to you today, the next governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha. When he assumes office, we will be adequately compensated. He is our brother and we have confidence that he will not deceive us. He is experienced and dedicated to duty”. He therefore urged the people to obtain their voters’ cards to enable them exercise their franchise.
The event had the presence of major political leaders which include, Chief Peter Orji, National Ex-Officio member of PDP, Mrs. Maria Mbakwe, State PDP Woman Leader, Chief Ben Mere, Prof. Obioma Iheduru, PDP LGA and Ward officers and market leaders, among others.
