What looked like a scene in a Hollywood action movie took place on Thursday 18 January 2018 at Orji police division Headquarters in Owerri North LGA, Imo State as a top senior police officer Supol U. Okereke Udeh allegedly manhandled a female police officer attached to his division.
The physical assault w attracted the attention of passer’s- by and people living around to the station.
The female police officer identified as Corporal Blessing Nwoji’s uniform was badly torn during the physical attack that left her lying on the ground with bruises.
The husband of the woman police officer who is also a police officer attached to the Shell Camp division later took his wife to Umezuruike hospital where she was admitted for treatment.
Investigations further revealed that what led to the merciless beating of corporal Blessing Nwoji was a minor misunderstanding between the two police officers.
A man who witnessed the incident pointed out that the Imo State police command should call the DPO to order.
He noted that the action of the DPO is against the ethics of public service.
‘’This is purely a show of shame, how can a DPO fight a junior officer under him publicly and a woman for that matter. There are many ways he can punish a junior officer than beating her publicly. The action of the DPO is against the rules and ethics of public service in Nigeria, he should be cautioned against such misconduct’’.
All efforts to reach female officer at Umezuruike hospital Owerri proved abortive.
The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Supol Andrew Enwerem is yet to respond to the text message sent to him concerning the incident.
