The sweeping wave of endorsements in the governing All Progressive Congress, APC in Imo State has raised fresh concerns as some party members are a bit skeptical and worried over the development.
Last week, the APC in Ikeduru, Orsu, Nkwerre Local Governments had endorsed the governorship ambition of Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu while Mbaitoli LGA chapter of the party endorsed the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere.
Investigation by this newspaper reveal that pressure in other local governments for similar endorsements is in full swing, a development which seem not be going down well with some APC chieftains and stalwarts in the local governments of the party.
This online newspaper gathered that there are underground scheming for more endorsements from the Local Government chapters of the party in what appears a move to skew the governorship ticket in favour of a particular aspirant.
Some members of the Imo House of Assembly and key stakeholders in the party in various LGAs sympathetic to the cause of some of the endorsement seeking aspirants in the Rescue mission camp of Governor Okorocha have lately come under pressure to tow the path of some LGAs that had given out their endorsements to a particular aspirant.
One of the aspirants who seem to be getting the upper hand in the wave of endorsements is alleged to be making frantic moves to get more APC LGA stakeholders for more endorsements.
However, It was gathered that some local governments party chapters especially those sympathetic to Senator Ifeanyi Araraume are planning to resist the move. Reports said the senator who is also eyeing the party’s governorship ticket have the loyalty of about 10 Local Government Chairmen of the party in the state.
In November last year, the 10 LGA party chairmen allegedly switched their allegiance to the senator after Governor Okorocha accused them of taking an oath for the politician in exchange for their loyalty.
A top APC chieftain who spoke on condition of anonymity said the development is worrisome as the ongoing endorsements is out of place and not in line with party rules of electing or choosing candidates.
” This is a new dimension. Is endorsements Primaries where aspirants are elected and emerge as candidates” he asked
