A ghastly car accident which occurred near Redemption Estate, Obinze in Owerri West LGA, Imo State on Friday, 25th January, 2018 has claimed the lives of two persons while many sustained  injuries.

Two eye witnesses, Mr Remigius Opara and Okeke Ohamara who brought the accident victims to Specialist Hospital, Umuguma, Owerri, said that the road mishap was as a result of over speeding.  They warned against careless driving by motorists, regretting that many souls have been wasted because of reckless driving on the highways.

The two victims who died at the time of filing in the report could not make it to the Specialist Hospital, Umuguma, while those who sustained minor and severe injuries were given attention  by the few nurses and doctors seen at the recently revived Specialist Hospital which lacked some facilities.

“It is quite disheartening that the health workers at the Hospital who were on duty then could not take in the victims to the wards for immediate treatment” one of the eye witnesses lamented

Mr Opara urged the Imo state government led by Governor Rochas Okorocha to as a matter of urgency and importance equip and  provide drugs or medicines to the Imo Specialist Hospital, Umuguma aind other public clinics so that lives of patients or accident victims will be saved promptly .

He also requested that Imo State Government to provide gadgets  such as vehicles, ambulances, plus employment of doctors, nurses and other health workers-so that service delivery will be effective
