As the scramble for the governorship ticket of the All Progressive Congress, APC intensifies in Imo State, there is a grand plot to curtail the influence of loyalists of serial governorship aspirant, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume.
Araraume is eying the Imo APC governorship ticket and with Congress to elect State, LGA and ward executives very close, his camp is edgy over plans to remove party officers loyal to him The move is alleged to be championed by suspected officials of the Rescue Mission of the Governor who are also bent on ensuring that Okorocha’s choice successor eventually picks the APC governorship ticket.
The APC in Imo State has been sharply polarized between the camps of Okorocha and Araraume. Some of the local government party chairmen are known to be in cahoots with the senator, a development which has never went down well with the Governor’s camp.
This newspaper was informed that no fewer than 16 Local Government party chairmen are loyal to the senator who have posed serious worry to the Rescue Mission. They operate with the code name G-16. And in a move to change the situation, plans have been perfected to change the scenario.
Last year, the Owerri municipal chairman of the party, Alex Ohanwe was l removed for showing allegiance to the senator. Last week, local tabloids in Owerri reported that the APC local Government Chairman for Ohaji/Egbema, Rev. Emma Ebomuche, a suspected Araraume ally had escaped an impeachment plot.
A top government official was accused of inducing party officials with N50,000 to carry out the impeachment plot. c
Similar event is also alleged to be playing out in Oguta Local Government Area where the Chairman, Cassidy Ohamara is facing some heat as there are alleged underground moves ongoing to pass a vote of no confidence on him.
