A political analyst, Mr. William Okwu has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter to President Muhammadu Buhari is aimed at scuttling Igbo Presidency in 2023.
Former President Obasanjo had last week in an open letter advised President Buhari to take a rest and not to seek for a second term in 2019. Okwu said Obasanjo’s plan is to truncate Buhari’s re- election in 2019 by erecting a third force that will challenge the ruling party.
“Obasanjo’s plan is to bring down the Buhari Presidency in 2019. In 2019 the North would have completed eight years. Naturally, Igbos should produce the next president in 2023 because the South West had produced Obasanjo as President from 1999-2007 and the South- South had through Jonathan occupied the presidency” he said
“It is only the South East that has not produced the nation’s President and it follows naturally that in 2023 after Buhari’s tenure in 2019, the South East should produce the next President of Nigeria” he said
“If the third force becomes a political party, there is no guarantee it will cede the Presidency to the South East in 2019. I believe the APC is the right political platform to realize Igbo Presidency in 2023. If the PDP or any other political party field a Northerner as its candidate and win the presidency in 2019, the South East will to wait till 2031 because such a Northern President will be in office for eight years” he said
Okwu commended the South East leadership of the All Progressive Congress, APC for declaring support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re- election in 2019.
“ I commend the APC leaders in the South East for that visit to the President. It shows they understand the evolving political dynamics in the country. Igbos should not fall for Obasanjo’s traps” he said
He advised Igbos to support the President Buhari’s re- election in 2019 because it will form the basis to secure the support of the North to win the Presidency in 2023
