The Old Boys Association of King Jaja High School Amaigbo (KJHSA), on the 31st of December, 2017 commissioned a newly built NYSC Corpers’ Lodge.

The President of the association, Pharmacist Ken Onuegbu, in his opening remark, recalled how the school was established in 1978, just twelve years after the first secondary school Dick Tiger Memorial Secondary school was established in Amaigbo in 1966. He praised past leaders who ensured that another secondary school like KJHSA was established to help a lot of Amaigbo children who trekked long distances to gain access to  good education at other side of the town or places outside Amaigbo.

He also recalled how in 2007 when the Chairman of Amaigbo Town Union (ATU) Committee on Education Mr. Paulinus Onuoha alerted the congress of a letter emanating from the Imo State Secondary Education Board, threatening the imminent closure and the reduction of the school to a junior Secondary School because of prevailing statistics indicating that the school at that time registered only twenty-five candidates with WAEC and the preceding year witnessed the registering of students who were below WAEC and standard.

Moved by this ugly development, the old students were able to organize themselves together, to form and inaugurate KJHSA-OSA which helped to provide the needed enabling environmental that changed the situation.

According to him, about N1,000,000.00 was realized during the inauguration and it was invested into the academic department of the school which helped the school to get a fantastic result the following year, and became the best school in Orlu zone. To him their efforts were not in vain, because it actually increased the number of students in the school and the threat of closure by government was subsided and the performance of the students in WAEC exam improved drastically.

He said building of a corpers lodge was an attempt to build a very strong relationship with the youth corpers whose services became inevitable for the academic development of the students due to the death of professional teachers.

He informed how they started by providing free accommodation and everything that was needed by the school to settle down in a serene teaching environment, by renting accommodation for Youth Corpers in neighboring villages. This he said they did, for 3 years, before they decided to have a permanent structure that will attract good and responsible corpers to assist in teaching our children.

In a closing remark, HRH Eze N.C. Nwosu, who commissioned the building  thanked all the members, whose dreams and vision brought them together to make the event a reality, including various donations, commitments and sacrifices made to realize the project, and prayed God to bless them and the works of their hands and to restore the lost glory of their Alma-mata.

The occasion attracted a lot of dignitaries among who is the President Genaral of Amaigbo Town Union; Chief Laz Osuala, the PTA Chairman, Engr. Sylvester Ejimmadu the guests of Honour, others present were KJHSA, Old Students Association from all works of life, staff and students of the school.
